What is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?
CIT is a simple, cost effective, non-erosive procedure that creates hundreds of microscopic channels deep under the dermis of the skin. Unlike laser or chemical peels, CIT (micro-needling) stimulates the body into creating new collagen and elastin which influences the production of thicker skin and the natural healing of stretch marks, acne scarring, wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation. The procedure involves an application of local or topical anesthesia, followed by the utilization of a sterile tool with very fine needles used in creating the channels into the skin. Clinical studies have proven that CIT allows for a greater absorption of therapeutic serums, as well as vitamins A and C creams into the dermis of up to 1000 times greater, making for younger, fresher looking skin. Results of CIT can last anywhere from five to ten years after the completion of a series of treatments.
Why invest in CIT?
- Absorption – Over the span of our lifetime, the dermis loses its efficacy in absorption. The pre-CIT treatment absorption rate using moisturizer lotion is normally between .03 to 1%. Post-CIT treatment using the micro-needling therapy system (MTS) exponentially increases the absorption rate of the skin between 75 to 85%.
- Recuperative Power – The stimulation created by the MTS creates rapid production of collagen and elastin within hours of CIT application. Due to rapid healing of the channels made by the MTS, the skin quickly thickens and is ready much sooner for additional treatments.
- Results – CIT has many great results to include softening fine lines and wrinkles, thickening of the skin, reduction of acne scarring and stretch marks. Skin will usually become smoother, fresher and have visible results around the eyes, mouth and cheeks once healing is complete.
What are the advantages of CIT?
The overly gentle procedure eliminates common negative side effects and risks associated with chemical peeling, dermabrasion and laser re-surfacing such as prolonged pain, discomfort, inflammation and redness, long healing periods, extreme light-sensitivity for months or longer, as well as irreversible pigment changes and additional scarring. CIT is cost effective; treatment is not painful, can safely be repeated for better results, stimulates physiological responses, has a short healing time and can be applied to all areas of the face, neck and body.
Recovery and Downtime
Immediately following the procedure the skin will normally turn pink to red and although rare, may have areas of bruising. Expect to experience some swelling for the first several days and even up to seven to ten days. Some light scabbing from the micro-channeling may be covered up with make-up. It is safe to resume to normal daily activities following CIT to include using normal cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen. It is highly recommended to liberally apply creams including Retinol Plus Serum by Jan Marini, as well as C’esta Serum due to their high concentrations of vitamins A and C.
